Some jobs are straightforward fabrication. Others need design work first. And some need the same part or assembly made repeatedly with a process built for consistency.

Batch manufacturing →The drawing is only useful if somebody can build it.
The CAD side grew out of fabrication and manufacturing work, not the other way around. That means thinking about how a part will be held, welded and assembled before anything gets cut.
That matters most when there is not a perfect drawing to start from, which is common with repairs, prototypes and custom parts.
